Broken down at the side of the road, Jenna Stone's life is like her car. In need of a jumpstart. Tired of playing by other people's rules, the widowed single mom guards her new freedom by keeping her deadbeat husband alive . . . in name only. But meeting Jake Traynor makes her question the merits of lying. Will he break down the fortress around her heart? Falling for a married woman was never in the blueprint. The definition of responsible son, workaholic executive Jackson Traynor is driven to prove his father right in promoting Jake to run the family construction company. He's all business. No pleasure. Until assisting a beautiful redhead with her broken down car reminds Jake what he wants. What if the only person you want is the one you can never have? Battling their deepening attraction, Jake must question everything he's ever believed-- because Jen and her kids are the family he's always dreamed of. Jenna must choose between a safe life and the one of her dreams. When Jake's company is threatened, she will risk everything to protect him-- even if it means exposing old secrets.
This story really took me by surprise. In the best way possible.
Jenna is keeping her dead husband alive to protect herself in a harsh business – and I can understand that. She wants to create a new world, a better place for herself and her children. Safer.
Jake is all about business and never thought he would fall so hard for Jenna. After he helped her when her truck died, he ended up offering her a job in his business. He has a hard time figuring her out, but all he knows is that he wants her. All of her.
I fell hard for this story. Lauren weaves a wonderful story about failed marriage, old scars, new love and hope. To see how Jenna and Jake circles each other, both hoping and wishing – it was amazing.
I loved to see how Jake steps into the family, how he becomes a part of it, without really knowing it. How he helps them all when everything starts to crash around them.
At the same time, I cried for Jenna. She has been hurt so many times previously by her dead husband – she can barely trust anyone around her anymore. When circumstances brings her in contact with someone from her past, she has the chance to run away or step up and protect the company – and man she loves so. No matter the outcome. I am humbled by the way she reacts throughout the book. I admire her for having the guts to start over, to take back her life, take the reins and move forward.
One thing is the relationship between Jenna and Jake. Another thing is every other character Lauren wrote into this book. Jake’s family is fabulous. The way she describes them makes me want to become a part of it. They made me laugh and I could practically feel the warmth and love radiating through the pages. It was wonderful.
Trusting Jake is not just a love story. It’s a story about strength, courage, love, hope and trust. It hit me hard and even after closing the book, I couldn’t let it go. Not really.
I love Lauren Giordano’s writing and this is definitely not the last book I will read by her. Thank you for creating such a wonderful and captivating story.
